Sayyed Alawi

Family of kidnapped and forcibly disappeared Sayyed Alawi in Bahrain said that the authorities are still concealing Bahraini cleric after 66 days. The family demanding the official parties to immediately release Sayyed Alawi.

Hawzah News Agency (Manama, Bahrain) - In a statement the family talked about what it called "blackout by the official authorities on Sayyed Alawi's disappearance," indicating that they did not receive any information about the charges brought against Alawi or his detention place.

They continued "for the 66th consecutive day, Sayyed Alawi hasn't met his lawyer or family. He wasn't even allowed to call his family but for few minutes. No one knows they reason behind his disappearance, the charges brought against him or anything about his wellbeing."

"All the official parties that we contacted within the past 66 days like the prosecution, National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) and Ombudsman avoid telling us anything about Sayyed Alawi. They sometimes avoid our calls too," the family further stated.

They added "the investigating office is refusing to meet us and not allowing Sayyed Alawi to call his family. The office is not giving any information to any reference; whether his family or lawyer's office."

"These information make us sure that Sayyed Alawi is being subjected to torture and pressure to extract confessions over a charge no one knows about but Allah," they went on to say.

The family concluded the statement demanding the official parties to immediately release Sayyed Alawi, bearing the Ombudsman and NIHR responsible for his safety and wellbeing.

End.
